Combined or online course
The TEFL Academy offers both combined and online courses. The online course is, as the name suggests, fully online. You don’t have to leave the house, at all.
The combined course includes a 20-hour weekend course (different locations) where you get more practical experience and someone that you can ask questions about teaching (which is definitely a plus).
I chose to do the course that was fully online due to a busy schedule and, let’s be real, having an extreme dislike for anything that involves me sitting in a classroom and learning. (I am very aware of how contradictory that is.)
What you’ll learn
The courses (both combined and online) contain ten units that are exam-assessed. For some of the units, you’ll also have to do an assignment.
Each unit focuses on a different aspect of the English language and on what the best ways to teach are. Some examples are planning a lesson, both understanding and teaching English grammar (you’ll need to be able to explain it to someone that might never have spoken English before), teaching pronunciation, etc. Everything you will need as an English teacher, you will learn from this course.
Not only are all units exam-assessed, but the course also has three assignments that you need to pass in order to receive your certificate. And they’re all very practical assignments, like creating a lesson plan, write out how you would conduct a lesson, come up with games to play with students, etc. Very practical and also a lot of fun to do!
- The course is both Ofqual (UK government) regulated and accredited by Qualifi and DEAC-approved (U.S. Department of Education recognised awarding body)
- Level 5 qualification (same level as CELTA/Trinity CertTESOL)
- Internationally recognised
- Instant access on enrolment
- 6 months of access to course materials
And that’s it. Everything you need to know about the TEFL academy. So what are you waiting for?
