At certain points in our lives, we come to a crossroads and we have to make a decision that is going to change our lives. And sometimes, we don’t have any control over the things that change in our lives. They can catch us off guard. The last few days and in the upcoming weeks, my life is going to change. A lot. And not all of it is good change (though most of it is). So today I wanted to talk about some things that will help you get through difficult parts of your life.
I genuinely believe that everything happens for a reason. And trying to think of all the things you could’ve done different, is not going to change the fact that you’re in this situation now.
If you have faith, it will help you to accept the situation you’re in. Yes, you will be sad. But you will know that there’s a reason behind everything. It’s all just a stepping stone towards something that you might not even be able to see coming yet. This can make you feel just a little bit better about it and it will help you accept the changes in your life rather than leaving you wondering how things could’ve been.
Changes will lead you to something new and something different, the place that you need to go. This will give you the strength to push through the bad times so that you can start looking at what’s coming next.
Try to joke about it
Sometimes, it’s too soon to start joking about things. It’s not easy to make a shitty situation better. How do you laugh about things when your parents are going through a divorce? Or when you and your best friend are fighting? When you lose someone or they pass away? How do you laugh when things aren’t going the way you want them to? In fact, if they go into a completely opposite direction?
It’s hard, but you have to try and joke about it. Because as soon as you get to that point, things will start to look up. Take the heaviness out of it.
Life is all about balance and sometimes, things have to go wrong and we have to feel horrible. Because otherwise we would never appreciate the moments when life is great.
Focus on solutions instead of problems
If you keep thinking about all the things that are going wrong with your life, you’re turning yourself into a victim. And that will just make you feel even worse.
There’s always something you can do about the problems you’re facing. Instead of focusing on what you’re missing, you can use that energy and channel it somewhere else. Throw yourself into work, or finally write that book you’ve been wanting to write. I’m not telling you to go in denial – just try not to dwell on things that you can no longer change and focus on the things that you can change.

Remind yourself of the fact that it’s only in this one area of your life that things aren’t going so well and just keep moving forward. At some point in the future, you will look back on the things you are learning right at this moment and you will be grateful for it.
All you can do is keep moving forward, day by day, step by step, no matter how long it takes to get to the other side.
