Jane Austen’s House Museum in Chawton

This post has been a couple of months in the making, but here it finally is!

I am a huge fan of Jane Austen’s work. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books of all time. And I told my host-parents that. So, after only a few weeks here in England, they took me to Chawton, to see Jane Austen’s house. You buy a ticket and can actually use that ticket for an entire year after that. So, when a new au pair came to Aldershot and told me that she liked Jane Austen, I decided to take her to that house museum as well. It was a great excuse for me to go again.

When you first walk into the museum, there is a short film about Jane Austen’s life that you can watch. After that, you walk through the gardens into the house, where you can admire portraits of the family and a few of Jane Austen’s personal items. My favourite was seeing her writing desk.

A short walk from this cottage, you can also visit the Chawton library, which was owned by Jane’s brother, and a small church where her mother and sister are buried.

I would definitely recommend going to Chawton for the day if you’re a fan of Jane Austen’s work!
