7 Things Your Host Family Should Not Be Doing

There are a lot of au pairs in Aldershot, and sometimes it’s almost as if host families forget that we talk to each other about what they do. From all the stories I’ve heard, some of them are really weird or just plain creepy. I’m so thankful that my host parents don’t do any of this but believe it or not, these are all things that host parents in Aldershot do that are just too weird. So, just as a reference to people that are thinking about hiring an au pair, here’s a list of things you shouldn’t do.

If you’re with a host family and the parents do one (or more) of these things, talk to your friends about it and then please get out of there.

  1. Walking around naked
  2. Texting the au pair late at night, asking if they want company (yes, that kind of company) and then telling them that they are sexy
  3. Calling the police on their partner and then refusing to tell the au pair what happened
  4. Making the au pair pay money for the water she drinks
  5. Fighting in front of the au pair
This is admittedly not the worst thing they can do, but it is extremely awkward for your au pair so just don’t.
  6. Your host dad should not be sending you texts asking you to send your friends upstairs because he likes them. Nor should he ask if you want to have some fun with him while you’re still there.
  7. Putting cameras up in the kitchen and living room and then not telling the au pair about it

If you’re an au pair (or have been one), what’s the weirdest thing your host family has ever done?

I had to google what an au pair is. Haha, There are all sorts of problems a domestic help might get and most might keep hush so as to not lose their jobs. Glad you talk about it.

I’m not gonna lie. I would have never thought of all the things that are issues you’d experience! What happens when you end up in those kind of predicaments?

Unfortunately, none of those things are illegal. I usually advise girls to find a different host family in these situations or to go home. It does completely ruin the experience of a year abroad if something like this happens to you…

Wow, people can be so disgusting sometimes! Sorry to see this happens!

I am not an au pair but I definitely agree with everything that you’ve said and if that hosting family are doing like these things I will immediately leave their house.

This is a very good list, the host family should not be asking these things, they are very inappropriate. just glad that you know the lines not to cross and that you are sharing that with others.

It’s like a bad movie! These do not at all indicate a safe environment for any person…leaving immediately should be the only option considered, nothing is worth it!

Wow! I can’t believe some of this inappropriate behavior! I think it’s great the the au pairs stay in touch and have a support system for when things go badly.

  9. 9 October 2018 / 5:56 pm

I can not even imagine that these things actually happen! Walking around naked should really be out of the question!

  10. 9 October 2018 / 4:34 pm

Wow! These are truly appalling. I would have to leave such environments, as there seem to be safety issues there.

  11. 9 October 2018 / 4:24 pm

Actually seriously people like this exist? I mean whoa! How can someone be so inappropriate.

This is so important, get out immediately if you can and it’s safe to do so!

Wow! One would think such a list would not be necessary but sadly I don’t doubt that it is. I think people invite someone into their home and forget that they are NOT a member of their family.

  15. 9 October 2018 / 6:10 am

Oh wow! Some of these actually happen!? Sounds so scary and uncomfortable.

  16. 9 October 2018 / 5:17 am

OMG! These are super uncomfortable. I would totally leave immediately if I could.

  17. 9 October 2018 / 4:26 am

Wow, those would make me super uncomfortable. I wouldn’t continue being an au pair at all!

  18. 9 October 2018 / 4:26 am

OMG! Why should this even have to be a list? Really people?

  19. 8 October 2018 / 10:20 pm

Wow, I can’t believe any of these things actually happen! Crazy!

  20. 8 October 2018 / 10:15 pm

Holy cow! All of these are insane! What uncomfortable working conditions. I’m so glad you talk to each other to stay safe!

  21. 8 October 2018 / 8:37 pm

Those are all inappropriate. I completely agree to leave immediately.
